Elīna Garanča (b. 1976) is one of the brightest young opera stars in the world today. Within a very short time, she has been invited to perform on some of the most prestigious musical stages (such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York) in the company of the world’s leading symphony orchestras.
Known as “the best Carmen of the past quarter century,” Garanča has been universally praised by both critics and the public not only for her divine, mezzo-soprano voice, but also for her superb acting abilities and for the genuine emotion that she imparts in her roles.
Garanča has been the recipient of many music awards, including the ECHO Klassik 2009 Singer of the Year, Musical America Award 2010 Vocalist of the Year and the MIDEM Classical Awards 2010 Singer of the Year.
